Upod Academy
Weekend Workshop for Freelancers
June 18 and 19, 2016
Los Angeles and Via Live Weblink

Upod Academy is pleased to present a June workshop for freelancers everywhere who want to get better at everything: writing, pitching, networking, being you.

  • Need a career game plan? We'll create one with you.

  • Want to expand your contact list? Here's your answer.

  • Time to break through to your next level? We have ways.

Here's what people say about their Upod Academy experience

To help us along, I've invited some of the most talented muses/guest speakers I know.

Heather Halberstadt
Features Director,
Departures

Departures' editor Heather Halberstadt will send you places.

Departures' editor Heather Halberstadt will send you places.

Heather Halberstadt is features director for Departures, the travel and lifestyle publication for American Express platinum and black card holders. Heather was senior editor at WSJ and before that, was at Vanity Fair, where she edited the New Establishment list. We'll talk about writing for all those vaunted publications as well as what it takes to travel in style. We spent time together recently in Iceland flying around in helicopters and swimming in the cracks around volcanoes, so maybe we'll talk about that, too.

David Ritz
Biographer, music legend

David Ritz will not let you procrastinate on Facebook, thank you very much.

David Ritz will not let you procrastinate on Facebook, thank you very much.

David Ritz is the golden god of music biographers. He's written more than 50 books with the greatest of greats: Ray Charles! Aretha! Don Rickles! Willie Nelson! He tells an incredible story about why he's credited as co-writer on Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing. We'll talk about writing, interviews, staying calm under pressure and much more. He has a Grammy, he's a novelist and he rocked the tattoo sleeve before your hipster barista was even born.

Ann Friedman
New York Magazine columnist,
Newsletter genius

Ann Friedman gets more done on a Friday morning than some do all year.

My other guest is the best thing to happen to e-newsletters since the invention of the SEND button: Ann Friedman (@annfriedman to her 50k Twitter followers). You can find her weekly column at NYmag.com. She also contributes regularly to The Los Angeles Times, The Gentlewoman, The New Republic, The New York Times Book Review, ELLE, The Guardian, and Los Angeles magazine. She co-hosts a podcast, Call Your Girlfriend, and her weekly Ann Friedman newsletter brings joy to thousands of inboxes each Friday.
